TULSA, OKLAHOMA -- A student crossing the street near a Tulsa school was struck by a car at 7:39 a.m. Monday.

The Tulsa Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to the scene of the accident near Jones Elementary School in east Tulsa.

The school is located at 1515 South 71st East Avenue. The 12-year-old student attends nearby Whitney Middle School.

The driver of the vehicle told The News On 6, the child darted out into the street unexpectedly.

Tulsa Police say the accident occurred about 2 blocks from a school zone.

EMSA says the 7th grader was taken non-emergency to a Tulsa hospital.
