NORMAN, Okla. (AP) -- The University of Oklahoma says it has enrolled more National Merit Scholars for the upcoming school year than it ever has before.
OU President David Boren said Thursday that 221 of the scholars are enrolled at the Norman university, a jump of more than 10 percent from the OU's previous high, set last year.
He says OU has maintained its No. 1 national ranking in the number of freshmen National Merit Scholars enrolled per capita among public universities.
Boren says OU's incoming freshman class has an average ACT score of 26 and that 477 of the more than 3,750 members of the class finished their high school careers with a grade point average of 4.0 or higher.
