TULSA, OK -- Books, bags, haircuts and shots - Southwood Baptist Church in Tulsa was a one-stop shop for back-to-school needs on Sunday, August 8.
The church offered free school supplies and back packs to the first 1,000 kids in grades kindergarten through 12th. Free children's haircuts and snow cones were also offered to the many kids who came in the doors.
Medical professionals were on hand to give immunizations to those students who parents brought their immunization records, and the Bookmobile from the Tulsa library was also at the church.
"It's unusual to do this on a Sunday morning, but we feel like this is one way our church can really say to our community, in a very practical way, share about God's love that we care for them," said Jim Burkett, Southwood Baptist Church.
Many volunteers worked to make the event a success. Southwood Baptist Church is located at 4020 S. 102nd E. Avenue in Tulsa.
