TULSA---Bank of Oklahoma is holding its 7th annual Literacy Campaign and Book Drive. The drive has collected 150,000 books in the past six years and this years has partnered with Volunteers of America of Oklahoma to distribute the books to programs throughout the Tulsa area.
‘We have a garage full of books,' said John Selph, CEO of Volunteers of America of Oklahoma, ‘books that were collected this year, and this garage will not be full very long because those books are going to be distributed to Early Childhood Education programs, Literacy Centers, lots of different summer programs and people will be in line to get those books.'
One program receiving books from the BOK Book Drive is Project Transformation Summer Camp operated at Southern Hills United Methodist Church.
‘We have up to 70 kids from our neighborhood that come here, they get reading time one-on-one with a volunteer every day,' said Pastor Jeff Jaynes , ‘BOK has been an amazing helper for us, for a kid to have a book that's theirs, that they can take home, that's an incredibly special thing.'
Donations of new and gently used children's books are being accepted at all BOK locations through June 30th.
