TULSA, OK -- Oprah Winfrey is looking for someone to host a new show on her network. A Green Country educator and former TV producer says she is planning an entry in the Oprah TV show sweepstakes.
CC Lawhon has gathered a group of young folks ages 11 to 15 to talk about TV. The kids are attending the TCC Summer Youth Program. She wants to know what they watch on television, and what they don't.
"And what they are into, and what they do and do not like about what they are seeing," Lawhon said.
She is hoping to use that information to put together an audition for a show on Oprah Winfrey's new television network. She thinks a program for or about teens would be good, and she's asking these kids what they think.
"How would you feel about a show about kids helping other kids?" she asked
They talked about that for a bit, while aspiring young photographer Maddux Walton, one of CC's students, rolled the video. Her plan is to use some of his video in her audition for Oprah..
They tossed around several ideas.
How about a life choices kind of obstacle course, one boy suggested.
"You start off easy, it gets harder as you get more choices piled onto you," he said.
"How important is it for a show to show wrong and right, or just right," Lawhon said
They talked through several ideas like that, and she was pleased with the serious discussion, until one point.
Rick Wells, The News On 6: "Who's your favorite local TV news guy?"
Student: "Rick Wells."
Rick Wells, The News On 6: "Attaboy, thank you young man."
CC says she plans to submit her show audition to Oprah next week. It will be posted on Oprah.com and viewers can vote for their favorite.
