TULSA, OK -- As new graduates prepare to celebrate, the Tulsa Police Department wants to make sure they do so safely.

"The Tulsa Police Department will be conducting directed patrols this coming Saturday, May 8 in preparation for the upcoming college and high school graduations," said Traffic Safety Coordinator Craig Murray, TPD.

Officers will be on focused DUI patrols starting at 7 p.m. Saturday continuing into the early hours of Sunday morning. Officers from all three Uniform Divisions, as well as motorcycle and Reserve officers, will concentrate on areas of Brookside, Cherry Street, downtown and other areas of Tulsa, Murray said in a news release.

"Citizens that will be out for the evening are reminded to always think before you get behind the wheel of a car after drinking," he said.

"Party hosts also need to remember that they are responsible for any person that leaves their gathering and drives while under the influence of alcohol."

The increased underage drinking and DUI patrols are funded by a grant from the Oklahoma Highway Safety Office.
