Cleaning Up The Clutter In Your Closet

TULSA, OK -- It's that time of year when a lot of people are switching out their closets, putting their winter stuff away and pulling out the summer clothes.

That whole process can leave your closet a mess, but there are some easy ways to keep the clutter out of your home.

One Tulsa mom cleared out her closet with the help of a de-cluttering expert, Michelle Lehman. 

With kids, the last thing Kathryn Bacon has time for is organizing her own closet.

"I don't want it to look so cluttered," said Kathryn Bacon.

Just looking around, Bacon keeps telling herself… "I just need to utilize this." 

Bacon says clutter is a big problem when she is getting ready for work.

"And then I come and find and I try a couple pairs on and decide which ones I'm going to wear and then I'm running out the door," said Kathryn Bacon.

So it is time for the de-cluttering expert, Michelle Lehman.

"So we're going to make it so that when she brings her clothes in from being washed that it will be simple where they go. And things will flow easier for her," said Michelle Lehman.

First step, empty the closet and put your clothes on the bed. That way you can see what you have and figure out what needs to go.

"When you have 3 v-neck shirts short sleeved white, varying shades of gray instead of white, you know it's time to replace and get one clean crisp white shirt," said Michelle Lehman.

Next, think about lighting.

"And so many people will hang pants on the bottom and shirts or blazers on top and what happens, this shadows over your lower bars so you can't see. So sometimes I'll put pants on top and shirts on bottom so you can see visually better and your closet seems lighter," said Michelle Lehman, "When you have all of these elements put together, you're destined to have a great closet."
