TULSA, OK – The first weekday game at the new ONEOK Field, and a special morning start time gave hundreds of students a chance to legally skip school to see the Tulsa Drillers.

It was a perfect day to play hooky from school or work to watch baseball.

Rick Wells, The News On 6: "You supposed to be in school today? No?"

There were little kids and bigger kids who were more talkative.

"We're missing everything, we're missing everything," they said.

Some were missing more than school.

"We're just waiting, we don't know where our kids are yet,"

Maybe they're on the bus, one of many full of kids happy to be out of class for the day. Some brought ball gloves.

"In case they hit a home run, I can get it," one fan said.

A popular spot at ONEOK Field is the grassy areas in the outfield. Lots of kids brought blankets, like two eighth graders from Lonestar in Sapulpa.

But they told The News On 6 they were just working on their tans.

Of course, there was a ball game going on, the Arkansas Travelers against the Drillers who looked a lot like muppets for the day. Not everyone who was here even noticed.

Rick Wells, The News On 6: ""How old are you?"

Harrison: "Three."

Wednesday was the first of the weekday games. It had a morning start time so schools could make a field trip out of it, but not everyone here was skipping school.

I'm a big school kid," laughed one fan.

There were super fans and regular fans, and guys who just taking a quick break from the office.

Baseball on a workday with a 10 a.m. start time, this is a great country.

The Drillers won 8 to 4 on Wednesday. There are three more weekday games this season. The next one is Tuesday, May 11th at 12:05 p.m.
