Ingredients:
6 small boiling-size onions
1 (28 oz.) can pork & beans
1/2 c. Griffin's waffle syrup
2 tbsp. brown sugar
1/2 c. ketchup
1 tbsp. prepared Griffin's or Garden Club mustard
1 tsp. prepared horseradish
1 tbsp. Worcestershire sauce
2 to 3 sliced of Bar-S bacon, cooked crisp and drained
Instructions:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Peel onions and place in a 2 qt. casserole dish. In a large bowl, combine all other ingredients except bacon and mix well. Pour in casserole over onions. Bake uncovered for 1 1/2 to 2 hours. Top with strips of crisp bacon just before serving.
Note: These baked beans tingle with the enticing flavor of maple syrup -- a New England secret. However, this recipe is much easier to prepare than the old-fashioned "soak-over-night-and-bake-all-day" kind. Treat your family to them often.
