TULSA---Expo Square is hosting nearly 1,000 top agility dogs and their handlers at the American Kennel Club's 14th Annual National Agility Championships this weekend.
‘Agility is the fastest growing dog sport, said Carrie DeYoung, Senior Agility Field Representative for the AKC, ‘the dogs are running an obstacle course with their handlers, it's a team sport.'
Trish Hafkey and her Bichon Frise, Angel, just started in the sport a year and a half ago and Angel is already the second-ranked Bichon in the country.
‘It's something to do with my dog, an activity to do with my dog,' said Trish, ‘I'm a pretty competitive person, I get to do what I enjoy and I think she enjoys it while we're out here.'
The event is free to the public and is open 8-5 Friday and Saturday, and Sunday 7-5.
For information on the event or where to find training classes in the area visit the American Kennel Club's web site here.
