CLAREMORE, OK --  The Rogers County District Attorney's Office has filed criminal charges against David Brubaker of Owasso for allegedly beating his 83-year-old mother-in-law.

According to the Rogers County Sheriff's Office, Brubaker faces one count of assault and battery by means and force likely to produce death and one count of domestic abuse/assault and battery.

Deputies arrested Brubaker on February 1st after the woman's granddaughter called 911 and reported he was assaulting both of the women.

Rogers County detectives say Brubaker assaulted the woman between November, 2009 and February, 2010 by hitting her with a towel, repeatedly hitting her with a closed fist, slapping her with both hands, punching her, kicking her and kneeing her in the back.

They say the injuries he caused included a broken nose, a broken neck, a broken jaw, a broken thumb, a broken elbow, as well as several fractures in her back and spine.

Detectives say the woman uses a wheelchair and reportedly suffers from dementia and Alzheimer's disease.

They say the woman's granddaughter interrupted Brubaker's attack and tried to stop it, but Brubaker then assaulted her.

The sheriff's office says the younger woman was able to dial 911 from another room.

In their report on the incident, deputies say when Brubaker was asked about hitting the woman he explained that she had slapped him and he "just reacted like any normal person would."

If convicted, Brubaker faces up to 20 years imprisonment for count one and up to one year in jail for count two and a possible fine of $5,000.
