NOBLE COUNTY -- The Oklahoma Highway Patrol shut down both northbound and southbound lanes of I-35 in Noble County in north-central Oklahoma Wednesday afternoon because of multiple traffic accidents.

The wrecks happened at about 12:30 p.m. in a construction zone at mile marker 200 just north of where the Cimarron Turnpike meets I-35 and south of the Billings exit.

Road crews are working on the southbound lanes of the highway, restricting traffic to just one lane in each direction on what is normally the northbound lanes.

As of 1:15 p.m., SkyNews9 HD pilot Mason Dunn said the wrecks backed up traffic for five miles in each direction.

Dunn said he counted at least five vehicles involved in the crashes.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol re-opened the southbound lane at about 1:10 p.m. and the northbound lane just before 2:15 p.m.
