Man In Body Armor Arrested In Tulsa Arson, Domestic Incident

TULSA, OK -- Tulsa Police and Fire responded to a domestic incident at about 5:30 a.m. Sunday at Sunchase Apartments, 8100 block of South 93rd Street.

When they arrived, they found James Dean Blackwell, 23, in full body armor, threatening to set fire to his apartment.

Blackwell had beaten his wife and mother-in-law with a baseball bat, according to Tulsa Police.

The suspect then set an apartment fire after threatening police and firefighters that he was going to do so, according to Bill French with the Tulsa Fire Department.

Firefighters got the blaze under control at about 5:44 a.m., French said. The entire building was evacuated, and there were no injuries do the arson.

Two units received smoke and fire damage.

Tulsa Police officers put Blackwell into custody at the scene. He has been booked into the Tulsa County Jail on two charges of assault with a dangerous weapon, first degree armor, committing a felony with body armor, possession of marijuana and resisting arrest.
