TULSA, OK -- Police say a traffic accident on U.S. Highway 169 that shut down the northbound lanes for almost two hours early Monday morning was caused by a man trying to kill himself.

Tulsa Police say the accident happened just after 3:50 a.m. near 41st Street.

Police Corporal Brian Collum says the unidentified 25-year-old man ran into traffic in an effort to commit suicide.

Collum say the man moved in front of two different cars, but both cars avoided him.  Collum says the man then jumped in front of a semi which hit him.

The man was taken to a Tulsa hospital, where at last word he was listed in critical condition.

All four northbound lanes of U.S. Highway 169 were shut down while police investigated the accident.

Tulsa Police reopened the northbound lanes just before 7 a.m.
