OKLAHOMA CITY -- State Treasurer Scott Meacham says he will not seek re-election and will step down when his current term ends in January 2011.

Meacham also said Friday that he will not seek any other elective office.

An attorney and former banker, Meacham says he enjoys public service but does not like partisan politics and the process of continuously running for office. He says he has not yet decided on his next career move.

Meacham was named by Gov. Brad Henry to serve as treasurer. He took office on June 1, 2005, to serve out the unexpired term of former Treasurer Robert Butkin. Meacham was previously state finance director.

Meacham was elected to a four-year term as Treasurer in 2006, garnering 59 percent of the vote.
