TULSA, OK -- You should bring your appetite and maybe some extra napkins. The first Rock N' Rib Festival is underway in downtown Tulsa. Just outside the BOK Center, you can get live music, lots of great barbecue, and a belly full of fun.
If you like rock and you love ribs; the Rock N Rib Festival is where you need to be. The event is being held just outside the BOK Center in downtown Tulsa.
There are 13 regional bands that will be taking the stage over the four day festival. But, the main attraction is the barbecue.
Seven teams are preparing the ribs that have won countless awards at competitions all over the country.
"These guys are all pro. They're all good, but let me tell you what I've taken them to school a couple of times out here," said Dan Johnson with Johnson's Barbecue.
All promise to have the best sauce and the best ribs.
"They're more tender than a mother's love," said Ed Latkowski with Coyote Roadhouse BBQ.
"You can take your teeth out and eat this meat, you really can," said Dan Johnson with Johnson's Barbecue.
Former pilot turned barbecue expert Dan Johnson thinks his ribs are the best and the most memorable.
"I got a thermo nuclear sauce that will improve your cardiovascular system, your sinus, your pancreas and your colon, in less than 32 seconds. Want to try it?" said Dan Johnson. "It will give you an instant tan. Boom."
Another vendor is Big Boned Barbecue.
"Just like the famous restaurant without the S and the money," said Big Boned BBQ's Aubrey McDonald.
He says they call him Dr. Love because he put so much love into his BBQ.
The festival opens at 11 a.m. each day, and is free tomorrow through Saturday if you go before 1 p.m. It costs $3 after one. Kids under 12 get in free.
