TULSA, OK -- A group of investors led by Bill Cameron and David Box of Cameron/Box Sports announced its intention to bring a Women's National Basketball Association team to Tulsa. Their funding is 75% in place, they said, and they hope to have an as yet unnamed WNBA team ready by May of 2010.
"We believe the Tulsa deserves a major-league franchise," said Bill Cameron, "and that's an opportunity that we see. While we're still aiming for September 1st, we may be able to push it into September a few weeks before we're faced with a go-or-no go deadline."
Cameron and Box said that negotiations with the BOK Center and the Mayor's office had gone well and that the Tulsans they had met seemed receptive to the idea of the WNBA expansion team.
They asked for local corporations to help fund the project by buying box seats as well as sponsorships for the team.
