TULSA, OK -- Work on Tulsa's "Dysfunction Junction" begins this week. The problem interchange at 193rd East Avenue and I-44 is getting a makeover.
The Oklahoma Department of Transportation says the first thing on the list is building a new eastbound bridge so all eastbound traffic can be shifted off the original bridge.
ODOT engineers say there will be delays but most lane closures will take place at night and on weekends.
Two lanes on I-44 eastbound and two lanes of 193rd East Avenue will remain open during the week.
"We're trying to rebuild a problem area out there, and we're excited to get started on it," said ODOT engineer Paul Green.
When done in two years, there will be new bridges and additional lanes on I-44 and 193rd East Avenue.
