Relay For Life Offers Family-Friendly Fun

TULSA, OK -- Tulsans and other area residents will light up the city Friday night as part of the 25th Annual American Cancer Society's Relay For Life festivities.  About 750 walkers are expected to walk all night - from 7:30 p.m. to 7 a.m. - to raise money for cancer research.

Festivities will take place at the OU Schusterman Center, 41st and Yale. Highlights include a balloon release at 8 p.m. and the Luminaria Ceremony at 10 p.m. The luminarias can be purchased in honor of any friend of loved one who has battled cancer.

The family-friendly event has several activities planned for Friday night. The Relay for Life is expected to raise over $100,000 for cancer research, advocacy and services.

Teams will keep at least one member moving around the track throughout the entire night while enjoying activities, entertainment, and fun for the whole family.

Relay For Life festivities are free and open to the public, as well.

Weekend activities Friday, July 31

  • Survivor Reception with cake and ice cream, 6 p.m.
  • Opening ceremony welcoming walkers, 7 p.m.
  • Cancer survivors' and caregivers' lap, 7:30 p.m.
  • Hope Floats Balloon Release, Queen of Relay and Kids Zone, 8 p.m.
  • Luminaria Ceremony, 10 p.m.
