TULSA, OK -- St. John Stroke Center has earned a new accreditation and its celebrating with an award winning musician. Grammy award winning gospel artist Kirk Franklin was on hand for the reception on Tuesday.
The St. John Stroke Center was recently recognized as using the best practices for early identification and treatment of stroke. Franklin became a spokesperson for the American Heart Association after learning that stroke is the number one killer of African Americans and heart disease is the leading killer for all Americans.
Franklin believes the message is a natural fit for his music.
"It's hard to talk about staying healthy with hip hop music, you know, in the video with the alcohol and the drugs and everything. When you music that is by nature, this is a genre that is based on inspiration, this is something I feel very comfortable doing and I don't feel like I have to change my message for it to fit, that it just naturally fits," said Kirk Franklin.
Franklin's Fight of Our Life Health Concert Tour makes a stop at the Mabee Center on Friday night at 7:30.
