TULSA, OK -- A car hit a 5-inch gas line at 4th and 193rd East Ave. at about 2:30 p.m. Saturday, causing headaches for local residents, emergency crews and drivers in the three-digit heat.

"It was a minor accident that turned into a major incident," said Tulsa Fire Captain David Beals.

One of two vehicles involved in an accident hit a large gas line, Beals said. The TFD called in a Hazmat team evacuated about 20 houses in the area.

The area was cordoned off for about two hours, backing up traffic in the area. Fortunately, the crews were able to repair the leak without incident.

The driver appeared to be uninjured, Beals said.
