BEIJING (AP) - Officials in China's southern Yunnan province are rushing tents, quilts and other emergency supplies to an area rocked by a powerful earthquake Thursday night.
China's Xinhua (shin-wah) News Agency says the magnitude 6.0 quake destroyed an estimated 10,000 homes and damaged 30,000 more. Hundreds of people have been hurt, although preliminary casualty figures confirm no deaths and fewer than three dozen serious injuries.
The quake has been followed by at least eight aftershocks.
Yunnan province is in a mountainous region along the border with Thailand and Myanmar known for earthquakes.
A 7.7-magnitude quake in the province in 1970 killed more than 15,000 people.
