TULSA, OK -- Officers with the Tulsa Police Department have arrested a suspect in connection with the shooting death of a 14-year-old.
Officers arrested Tyler Ross Deerinwater at about 10:15 Tuesday night on a complaint of first degree murder. Deerinwater, 18, was booked into the Tulsa County Jail.
Acting on a tip, officers went to a home in the area of 1600 North Yorktown. When they arrived, Deerinwater took off.
Officers say they later found him hiding in a tree.
According to police, Deerinwater admitted his involvement in the murder last week of 14-year-old Tevon Mathies of Missouri. The teen was shot and killed at the Birch Place Apartments near 33rd and Garnett.
Last Friday, police arrested 20-year-old Jeffrey Proctor also in connection with Mathies' death. Officers say Proctor admitted he was at the scene of the homicide and was in possession of a handgun.
