Chickasha Teen Drowns In Pond Near Coyle

COYLE, Oklahoma -- Authorities said a Chickasha teenager drowned while swimming in a pond at a raceway near Coyle in Payne County.

The Oklahoma Highway Patrol said 16-year-old Irving Vuviat died at Children's Hospital at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City at about 1:45 a.m. Saturday.

The patrol said Vuviat and a couple of friends were at the Cooperland Motorsports Arena pond when the friends noticed he was missing. Troopers said the friends called 911 and bystanders jumped in the water to search for him.

Troopers said a bystander found the teen, who was unconscious and not breathing when he was taken out of the water about 10:05 p.m.

People at the scene administered CPR on Vuviat until paramedics arrived.
