TULSA, OK -- A motorcycle chase kept Tulsa police officers busy overnight on Sunday.

At about 1 a.m., officers say they saw a motorcyclist driving recklessly at 51st and Memorial. When officers tried to stop the man, they say he took off.

Officers called in their helicopter to keep up with the motorcycle. The pilot estimates the bike reached speeds of 140 mile per hour.

After about an hour of chase, the man ditched his bike in west Tulsa and ran into the woods where the helicopter lost him.

Police say it's people like this that ruin riding for everyone.

"A lot of these sports bike riders hang out at the 51st and Memorial area and you know the overwhelming majority of these guys are out here just to have a good time. They're not breaking the law. They're not acting stupid. And then you have one of these guys who just is absolutely silly and just gave everybody a bad name," said Captain Shawn King, Tulsa Police Department.

Police are still searching for the man.

If you have any information that could help, call Crime Stoppers at 596-COPS.
