East Central Counselor Receives Award

TULSA, OK -- A Tulsa counselor got a big honor and big check Thursday for her work in connecting the school and the community.

Carol Axley received the 2009 MetLife Ambassadors in Education honor and the $5,000 grant that went with it. She works at East Central High School.

I've been here for 14 years, and I love my job," Axley said. "My principal lets me be very creative, so it's basically for the students and their families."

Axley says she will use the money to take freshmen on an overnight trip called Cardinals United and set up dinners to help students work on their etiquette skills.
