TULSA, OK -- The City of Tulsa has identified 19 grants it's eligible for to get money from the economic package.
The city is looking at just over $100 million in potential stimulus money.
Metro Transit could get as much as $17 million. Half of that is to increase energy efficiency and reduce the impact on the environment.
Tulsa Police has its sights on more than $21 million. Most would be to hire new police officers.
The grant would cover only three years of employment and requires the city to keep the new officers at least one year after the grant has ended. The city has not said how it would pay for that.
The fire department is also hoping to get a $15 million grant. It would pay to add on to the fire training academy and upgrade or even build new fire stations.
There are smaller grants on the list as well, including $2 million for adult and youth employment programs; $1.5 million for homeless prevention and $517,000 to improve air quality and implement alternative fuel use for city vehicles.
