Self-Inflicted Gunshot Ends Bixby Standoff

BIXBY, OK -- Police say a 46-year-old Inola man who had abducted his ex-girlfriend at gunpoint, shot himself in the head after Bixby Police officers tried to talk him into surrendering.  

The incident happened Tuesday morning at Stadium Road and Main Street in Bixby. 

Earl Applegate was taken to a Tulsa hospital in critical condition.

Police say the woman, who was not hurt, got out of the car before Applegate shot himself.
