Storm Causes Minor Injuries In Healdton

HEALDTON, Okla. (AP) - Authorities say severe weather left damage in parts of Oklahoma today and led to the traffic-related death near Walters.

Carter County officials say several children sustained minor injuries when straight-line winds gusting to 70 miles per hour blew out windows at an elementary school in Healtdon. Emergency Management director Ed Reed says the winds also toppled power lines, trees and a cell phone tower.

In Cotton County, the Oklahoma Highway Patrol says 43-year-old Janie Ross of Lawton died when her car hydroplaned on Interstate 44 during heavy rains, crossed the center median and slammed into an oncoming pickup truck about 7:15 a.m.

Elsewhere, a possible tornado raked through Seminole County about 11:30 a.m., destroying a house and damaging other homes and a pig farm operation in Wewoka.

Seminole County Emergency Management Director Aaron Findley says the storm picked up a sport utility vehicle and set it on top of a propane tank, causing an explosion. Findley says tin also was wrapped around a tree.

Damage to a home and an airport hangar was reported in Ada and a mobile home was blown off its foundation in Yeager in Hughes County.
