Pink Out the Capitol

The State Capitol is going Pink! April 21^st is Breast Cancer Awareness Day at the Capitol, and many breast cancer survivors are invited to attend. Various breast cancer awareness organizations will be on hand to talk with state lawmakers, in hopes of putting a face on the issue.

Organizers are hoping to have breast cancer survivors from each of Oklahoma's 48 districts. They want to flood the Capitol with pink and show support for funding of State Bill 434. The bill deals with the Take Charge! Program.

State Senator Judy Eason McIntyre authored the bill to authorize the State Department of Health to create a cancer patient navigation Program. Senator McIntyre is a breast cancer survivor and knows all too well the challenges a patient might experience during the journey. The program would provide education about the management of cancer as well as assistance. It would help patients get access to health care, financial and legal assistance, transportation, psychological support and other related issues. SB 434 was approved by the Appropriations Subcommittee on Health and Human Services and is now awaiting consideration by the full Senate.
