TULSA, OK -- Some Tulsa elementary school students are learning the importance of protecting our environment.

Judith Dieckman's 4th grade Gift and Talented students at Robertson Elementary created a landfill six months ago.

Thursday morning, the students went back and started digging up the 57 items they buried.

Before burying them, the students weighed and measured each item.  And Thursday, they went back and made comparisons to find out which items were bio-degradable and which weren't.

Dieckman says the assignment was good way for students to learn the impact trash has on our environment.

"When we were talking about the difference between recycling and garbage we thought maybe we should what happens with our own eyes when we put things in a landfill" said Judy Dieckman.

Robertson Elementary School is located at 2721 West 50th Street.
