Delaware Co. Murder For Hire Arrest

JAY, OK -- A 51-year-old Miami, Oklahoma resident is in the Delaware County jail after deputies say he tried to hire someone to kill his ex-fiancée.

Delaware County Sheriff's Office deputies arrested Ricky Dale Payton Tuesday night after he met with undercover officers with the sheriff's office and agents with the Oklahoma Bureau of Narcotics Dangerous Drugs.

Deputies say Payton offered to pay an undercover officer approximately $2,500 and supply the firearm to kill his ex-fiancée.

Payton, who was being investigated into drug activity, was currently out of prison on probation for a variety of drug related convictions.

During a court appearance Wednesday morning, a Delaware County District Court judge set Payton's bond at $1 million.

Authorities say Payton's intended victim has been contacted and she has been relocated to a safe location.
