GLENPOOL, OK -- Glenpool city leaders broke ground Thursday on a conference center complex.
For $12 million, the city will get two anchor hotels and space for city hall.
While the rest of the country is feeling the economic pinch, Glenpool says it's embracing expansion.
"It's a conference center, not a convention center, and so we're not competing with the BOK's or the Spirit Event Centers of the world," Glenpool Mayor Shayne Buchanan said. "We're looking for a little bit smaller venues, sort of a niche market right now where you can have workforce training, you can have job fairs, you could bring school events out here."
The new complex will seat about 900 guests and should be ready by fall 2010.
