MUSKOGEE, Okla. (AP) -- A federal judge has sentenced a former tribal convenience store employee to five years of probation and ordered him to pay more than $8,100 in restitution.

U.S. Attorney Sheldon Sperling said Thursday 28-year-old Michael Ray Dean was charged with embezzlement and theft from an Indian tribal organization.

Sperling says the Okmulgee resident was indicted June 18th for allegedly using the money from the Creek Nation Travel Plaza, where he worked as a clerk behind the counter.

Dean pleaded guilty on July 28th.
