OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) -- Members of the Oklahoma House have overwhelmingly supported a measure opposing the housing of any Guantanamo terrorists in Oklahoma.
By a vote of 81-12 on Thursday, Republican Rep. T.W. Shannon of Lawton convinced fellow members in a state House Resolution that Guantanamo detainees should not be housed anywhere in the U.S.
Some members argued against the resolution, saying relocating the detainees could provide an opportunity for Oklahoma and help the future of Fort Sill and other bases in the state.
Last week the state Senate approved a similar resolution.
The resolutions do not have the force or effect of law and only express the intent of the state Legislature.
