Tulsa Mayor Kathy Taylor Announces Green Fleet

TULSA, OK -- Mayor Kathy Taylor showed off Tulsa's new energy- and environmentally-friendly Trash Truck.

They're the latest component in the city's effort to go green.

At a news conference Friday morning, Mayor Taylor said the "Green Fleet", the energy efficient vehicles used by the city, make up about five percent of its total motor fleet.

Taylor said that percentage will likely grow significantly over the next few years.

Today it was all about going green with trash, as a brand new city refuse truck joined the "Green Fleet."

In fact it's the first trash truck to run on compressed natural gas in the entire state.

CNG vehicles are cheaper to drive and create significantly less pollution.

City leaders said energy efficiency will be a key purchasing point for any new vehicles.

In fact over the past year the city has ordered 89 vehicles considered to be green.

When they arrive they'll  be easy to spot.

Each will be adorned with special "Green Fleet" graphics.
