OWASSO, OK -- Hundreds of people rolled up their sleeves to help a boy, who's barely a year old. Dax looks like any other kid happy and healthy. But, he's received six blood transfusions since he was two-months-old.
Doctors think RSV damaged his bone marrow, preventing it from making red blood cells. Dax's mother says she was shocked at the number of people who showed up on Friday to help her son.
"It does help. It credits us for Dax's blood, which is wonderful. But, at the same time, we wanted to do something to give back. I mean, we're taking. We're taking blood and this helps us give back," said Shea Garrison.
Doctors say Dax could outgrow whatever is preventing him from making red blood cells. They just have to wait and see. Until then, he'll continue to have transfusions.
