CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - Heavy rain is continuing to take its toll across the South, in the form of flooding, school and road closures, and a landslide that destroyed a North Carolina home.
Thousands of people are without power across the Carolinas.
In eastern Tennessee, people in about 25 homes were encouraged to leave, in the face of rising waters.
There's also been flooding in Georgia, Alabama, Kentucky, Virginia and West Virginia. Nine roads and bridges are closed in West Virginia because of high water and downed power lines.
As skies clear in Alabama, parts of the state have been dealing with scattered flooding from a lengthy rainfall. The wet weather prompted rescue operations earlier in the week, when cars were engulfed in water.
