ORU Women’s Hoops Defeats Centenary, 95-42

TULSA, OK -- The Oral Roberts women's basketball team defeated Centenary, 95-42, Saturday afternoon in ORU's conference home opener.

It was the largest margin of victory in league play for the Golden Eagles since last season when ORU defeated the Ladies, 79-35, on Feb. 2, 2008.

The Golden Eagles are now 8-6 overall and 1-3 in conference action, while the Ladies fall to 2-11 overall and 0-3 in league play. ORU is now 11-0 all-time against Centenary and the Golden Eagles are also 6-0 at home this season.

Freshman guard Georgia Jones (Manchester, England) led ORU with a game-high 20 points, as she shot 7-of-9 from the field, including a perfect 6-of-6 from the three-point line. Junior forward Janae Voelker (Newton, Kan.) finished one assist short of a double-double and two rebounds short of a triple-double with 19 points, eight rebounds and a career-high nine assists. Freshman forward Jordan Pyle (Mustang, Okla.) posted a career-high 15 points and pulled down eight boards, while senior forward Monah Pegorari (Sao Paulo, Brazil) chipped in 11 points and six rebounds. Senior guard Mariana Camargo (Blumeanu, Brazil) also become the 14th player in ORU history to score 1,000 career points, as she added four points today for exactly 1,000 points.

Pyle started ORU with the first two points of the game in just under the first 30 seconds of the first half. Centenary responded with a three-pointer from Anne Farrell for its first and only lead of the game at the 18:15 mark. The Golden Eagles forced six turnovers in the next five minutes of action and took a 13-3 lead with 13:31 left in the half.
Another six Centenary turnovers brought ORU up 30-8 with 5:26 remaining and the Golden Eagles ended the half on a 14-6 run to take a 44-14 lead heading into the break.

Freshman forward Cristal Turner (Maidstone, England) came out of the locker room on fire scoring seven of her eight points in the first four minutes of the second half, as ORU took a 16-7 run, going up 56-21 with
16:13 to play. A Jones three-pointer gave the Golden Eagles its first 40-point lead of the game, 63-22, at the 13-minute mark, as ORU never led by less than 40 the rest of the game.

ORU shot 55.6 percent (35-63) from the field, including a season-high
69.2 percent (9-13) from three-point range and 61.5 percent (16-26) from the free throw line.

The Golden Eagles out-rebounded the Ladies, 40-32. ORU scored 35 points off turnovers, as the Golden Eagles forced a season-high 33 turnovers.

Centenary shot 26.7% (12-45) from the field, including 26.7
(4-15) from behind the arc and 63.6% (14-22) from the charity stripe.

ORU continues conference action next weekend at home, facing Oakland on Saturday, Jan. 10 at 2:05 p.m. before battling IPFW on Monday, Jan. 12 at 7:05 p.m.
