TULSA, OK -- The Airmen of Note are 18 talented musicians from the United States Air Force Band.
Originally created in 1950 to carry on the big band tradition of Glen Miller's Army Air Corps Dance Band, the Airmen of Note stopped at Tulsa's Union High School to play for its aspiring musicians.
"We travel all over the country bringing community relations jazz concerts to the American people. We do some troop morale and we also do some recruiting missions as well," said SMSgt. Joe Jackson.
Besides treating the students to a private concert, the Airmen also gave them some lessons in big band jazz stylings.
"This is like doctoral level study, it's incredible to be even able to expose them to this type of material," said Matt McCready, Director of Bands at Union High School.
The Airmen of Note will also be giving a free concert Friday, November 21 at 7:30p.m.
Tickets are required and can be reserved by calling 595-7777.
Special seating will be available for veterans and their families by reservation.
