TULSA, OK -- Tulsa police say a middle school student fought off a kidnapper on his way to school on Thursday morning.
The 12-year-old boy told police he had just left his sister at Kerr Elementary school and he was on his way to Lewis and Clark Middle School, near 3rd and 117th East Avenue when a man with a knife jumped out of the bushes and tried to grab him. He says he kicked the man in the groin and was able to run for help.
"We're so thankful nothing happened. This could have easily gone a route that we would hate to even talk about. The fact is this young man did well and got away and he had the state of mind to remember things," said Tulsa Police Officer Craig Murray.
The boy described the man as a short and stocky Hispanic man with a U shaped scar on his left cheek.
Tulsa Public School officials say both schools notified parents about the incident.
Anyone with information about this incident is asked to call Crimestoppers at 596-COPS.
