SAND SPRINGS, OK -- The city of Sand Springs is going CodeRed. The city announced the new telephone emergency system on Monday.

CodeRed will allow the city to quickly notify residents and businesses when an emergency is occurring.

In other cities, the system has warned residents of fire and flood disasters as well as missing children and major utility service interruptions.

Sand Springs residents will be able to sign up for CodeRed soon at absolutely no cost to them.

"For the first 18 months it's going to be by our sponsors. We have eight sponsors through the city who contributed. Most of them where from our industrial community. The other 18 months will be from the city. And we will look at other funding options after that," said Mike Carter, Asst Police Chief.

The service will be available for both land-line and cellular telephone customers.

Sand Springs plans to have CodeRed up and running in January.
