EDMOND, Okla. -- For soldiers serving overseas, not only do they have to deal with the difficulties of war, but they do it while missing out on things at home.
For some, that means missing out on important events like ultrasounds and births, but on Oklahoma business is changing that.
Technology has already enabled families to be brought closer together who are miles apart from each other, but now the same type of technology is being used for ultrasounds to make loved-ones feel a part of the process. Military families in particular are jumping at the idea.
Rebecca Trudell is 32-weeks pregnant. Her dad came with her to see some of the first pictures of her baby, because her husband could not.
"It's hard not to have him here," Trudell said.
That's because her husband Cameron is thousands of miles away serving his country in Iraq. He being overseas is the reason she came to Miracle Within Ultrasound in Edmond.
"It's awesome, it's so nice that he can be a part of this, because since he is so far away it's hard to make him feel like he's just as much a part of everything that I'm going through," Rebecca said.
She came to Miracle Within Ultrasound because not only do they give her 3-D pictures of her baby, but the whole thing is recorded live for her husband to watch stationed in Iraq.
"They hear everything we say, they see everything on the ultrasound screen and then I usually have some music playing in the background," Krystal LaValley with the Miracle Within Ultrasound said.
LaValley says it works much like streaming video. Rebecca's husband logs onto a computer in Iraq and is then able to watch the ultrasound as if he was there in person.
Rebecca's husband Cameron is on a 15-month tour, but will be able to come home towards the end of the year, the same time Rebecca is due.
The service is not only offered to families with soldiers overseas, but anyone whose family members can't be there for ultrasound.
Miracle Within Ultrasound in Edmond is located at 3209 South Broadway #211, Edmond, OK 73013. They can be reached by phone at 405-715-3387.
