SAND SPRINGS, OK -- After a year of planning, Sand Springs has a new custom-built fire engine in service.
The city dedicated Fire Engine Number 1 on Wednesday. Sand Springs firefighters worked with the manufacturer to design the truck specifically for the types of emergency they respond to most. That way, this fire truck is as efficient as possible.
"When the personnel come off each side of the truck, what they need is on that side of the truck, so there's no wasted time or wasted effort," said Sand Springs Mayor Bob Walker.
Money from Sand Springs' new Emergency Medical Services Fee paid for the new engine. The old truck will be kept as a backup.
