TULSA, OK -- The fire department's academy class participated in a live fire training exercise Thursday at Sun Oil Refinery.
Part of the training included fighting a petroleum tank and valve fire.
"They're learning to feel the heat, the smoke and the intensity of a fire. And under this controlled environment, as we gradually train them, we want them to be to be comfortable working in that environment. And this is one of their first experiences with fire," said Tulsa Fire Captain Michael Baker.
"It's pretty intense for most of us. Once you get up to the heat, it's pretty warm," said Tulsa Fire recruit Michael Chandler.
Firefighters from Sun Oil Refinery also helped out in Thursday's training.
