UNDATED -- We're at the halfway point of the high school football season and so far the story begins and ends with Broken Arrow.

Week one, the Tigers topped Union for the first time in 19 years, setting off wins against Owasso and Booker T. Washington , but we'll get back to the Tigers in a moment.

The next week the Redskins hosted Jenks in another memorable Backyard Bowl. It took overtime, but Union claimed bragging rights and started putting up some points. Since that Broken Arrow loss, the Skins have rattled off four straight victories and have outscored opponents 144-33.

Booker T. Washington is back in 5A this season and has burst onto the scene as one of best. It started with wins against Carl Albert and East Central, but Hornet quarterback Eric Bennett has been injured. But Booker T's barely missed a beat, only falling in a close battle to Broken Arrow, and has beat up on district foes Bishop Kelly and Miami.

4A's top team has dominated opponents. Glenpool's defense has only allowed seven points all season, has four shut-outs, while putting up nearly 40 points per game. Its marquee win came in week two, an 8-0 Bixby beating.

Cascia Hall is the Class of 3A. The Commandoes are trying to win back-to-back championships for the first time in school history. They're well on their way...unbeaten and their remaining opponents are a combined 13-12.

Back to Broken Arrow now. The Tigers were tamed against Muskogee. The Roughers won on the last play of the game with a 20-yard touchdown pass. Norman North is the new number one in 6A. It's the first time a team from the west side of the state has held the top spot since 1996. That same year started a streak of 12-straight titles for east side schools.

5 Weeks Remaining 5 Can't-Miss Games

  • 10/31  Jenks at Muskogee: This Halloween showdown is the best treat of the season to east-side football fans. Most likely will determine the 6A-3 district champion.
  • 10/10 Broken Arrow at Jenks: After losing to Muskogee on the final play of the game last week, the one-loss Tigers are suddenly in must-win mode with another key match-up in sorting out the 6A-3 log-jam.
  • 11/7 Booker T. Washington at Bixby: Both teams should be undefeated and playing for a 5A-3 district championship the last week of the season.
  • 10/10 Collinsville at Grove: A 4A District 3 tilt between two 5-0 teams that should determine league champion.
  • 11/7 Glenpool at Star Spencer: This should be the only team in the way of the Warriors claiming the 4A-2 district title. Glenpool's four other opponents have a combined record of 7-13.
