TULSA, OK -- What started as a collision between two pick-up trucks ended with a gas pump smashed and the station on fire. Now one man is in the hospital.

The 68-year-old man is in intensive care, his wife who was also hurt in the crash has been released. Firefighters say with plenty of fuel to fan the flames, this could have been a much bigger disaster.

Even after the fire was out, the smoke kept rising and folks gathered across the street, puzzled by the scene before them.

"It was amazing but yet terrifying at the same time. It just happened so fast. In a blink of an eye it all happened," said Brandon Biaselli.

Police say it all started in the intersection of 41st and Union, with one pick-up truck running a red light and slamming into another. Somehow both trucks ended up tearing through the Sinclair gas station parking lot.

"When I heard the loud sound boom I look out and I see fire up," said Dong Hong.

Hong was inside the convenience store with two customers.

"I turn off the gas pump right away and turn off the gas pump. And I open the back door and I say all get out," said Hong.

They got out safely, but two folks involved in the initial crash weren't so lucky.

By the looks of the truck, you'd think it was this driver that was hurt. But he was inside the convenience store at the time of the crash.

Firefighters had to lay a foam line amidst the flames to rescue James and Francis Crow. Both were taken to the hospital. She was released, but he is still in intensive care with multiple injuries.

Firefighters say they were able to get a handle on the fire quickly, because the store clerk shut off the fuel.

"Employees are trained to hit that switch, shut the pumps down, hit the power switch whatever. This store owner prevented this from being a much, much bigger problem," said TFD Captain Michael Baker.

The Crow's daughter says the real heroes were the firefighters, who walked through flames to help pull her dad, who was unconscious out of the truck.

James Crow is a pastor at a Prattville church.
