OWASSO, OK -- A busy section of a Green Country highway is a whole lot safer. State and local leaders held a ribbon cutting on Highway 20 in Owasso near the Highway 169 junction on Friday.
They started working on the plan to widen the four mile section of highway 10 years ago. O-DOT says safety was the number one reason for tackling the project.
"We were having two and three fatalities a year on this section. It was one of the highest fatality-rate roads we had in the state," said ODOT Director Gary Ridley.
Owasso's Chamber of Commerce says the highway expansion has also led to an economic boom in the area.
