I have more than 700,000 reasons to say thanks!  That's the estimated amount of money we raised Saturday morning for this year's Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure. Thousands of folks laced up their shoes and hit the pavement. We had serious runners; we had walkers and even babies in strollers. We had folks in their 80s participating and hundreds of survivors proudly wearing pink shirts! What an amazing morning!

I heard from so many of you about your personal stories. There's the lady who was showing off her new Ford Mustang. As a survivor, she wanted to show her victory with the new pink ribbon sports car. There was Sue Brannon, a survivor who was the top fundraiser on my team. She personally raised $600 in the fight. And then there's Lynsie Baker who's just a little girl who joined her mom to walk for the second straight year. Every person can make a difference, and I'm so grateful we had such a wonderful turn out!

Now we move into October and Breast Cancer Awareness Month. I'll be out and about speaking at various organizations.  I'll be reminding women to get their mammograms, see their doctor annually and do breast self-exam every month.

Early detection is the key!
