In the East, a low pressure system produced another round of showers and thunderstorms across portions of the Mid-Atlantic region and Florida. Isolated severe thunderstorms did produce frequent lightning, gusty winds, sizable hail, and heavy downpours. Quarter size hail was reported at Cottageville, South Carolina; and nickel size hail fell at Harleyville, South Carolina. A wind gust of 65 mph brought down trees at Plantersville, South Carolina as well. Localized areas of flooding and flash flooding occur across portions of the Carolinas as heavy rains affected the area. Greensboro, North Carolina received 1.39 inches of rain; and 1.38 inches fell at Raleigh Durham, North Carolina. Otherwise, partly cloudy skies and dry conditions prevailed across the Great Lakes region, the Northeast, the Ohio and Tennessee Valley, and much of the Southeast.
Across the western two-thirds of the country, an upper-level low pushed into northern California, cooling temperatures and bringing in increased moisture to many locations. Isolated showers and thunderstorms developed late in the day across northern and eastern California, Nevada, southwestern Utah, and Arizona. There was one severe weather report of a 59 mph wind gust in St. George, Utah. Rainfall amounts with this activity were generally less than 0.20 inches. As for the Mississippi Valley, the Plains region, the Rocky Mountains, and the Pacific Northwest, skies were mostly sunny to partly cloudy with dry conditions.
